Separate readability from suitability.
An applicant tracking system can store applications, extract information and support an employer’s workflow. A file-readability score cannot tell you how every employer configures that workflow, whether you meet its requirements or whether you will get an interview. Treat any score as a set of checks to investigate.
Aven separates original-file readability from writing quality and job matching. Its published score method explains the checks and their limits. A high readability score does not make missing experience disappear.
Check that the file contains recoverable text.
Open the PDF and try selecting a sentence. Copy a few paragraphs into a plain-text editor and check the result. If the document is a scan, selectable text may be missing or may come from an imperfect OCR layer. Check names, dates and numbers carefully after text recognition.
For Word files, keep critical information in ordinary body paragraphs where practical. A document can look attractive while putting contact details in headers or arranging experience in tables that a particular reader interprets differently. These structures deserve inspection rather than an automatic claim of failure.
Read the recovered text in sequence.
Check whether a role’s title, employer, dates and achievements stay together. Two-column designs may look orderly to a person but produce interleaved text when copied or parsed. If the order is wrong, try a simpler structure and check the new export.
For Arabic and mixed-language documents, inspect the direction and association of words as well as whether characters appear. Successful character recovery alone does not establish correct reading order. Use the employer’s requested language and format.
Use clear headings and consistent dates.
Headings such as Experience, Education, Skills and Projects explain the structure without requiring a reader to infer it. Write dates consistently and make ongoing roles clear. Prefer readable text for contact methods over an icon that carries the entire meaning.
Test the email address and links in the exported file. Remove tracked changes, editing notes and placeholder text. Give the document a practical name, such as Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf, and keep a copy of exactly what you submit.
Use relevant keywords as evidence.
Take the employer’s terminology seriously when it accurately describes your work. A listed technology or qualification should correspond to experience, a project, training or another real source. Describe that evidence in context.
Repeated keywords, hidden text or skills you do not have do not strengthen an application. If a requirement is missing, acknowledge it to yourself and decide whether to apply, seek clarification or develop the skill. No scanner can turn a wording match into proof of competence.
Check the final export, not only the editor.
Open every page at a comfortable reading size. Inspect clipped lines, awkward page breaks and detached headings. Then repeat the text-selection and reading-order checks on that same file. An edit or a different template can change the output.
Aven’s free uploaded-file review identifies recoverable text, character issues, recognizable sections, a contact method and date context. It also surfaces inspection notes for some document structures. PDF visual overlaps and column geometry are not measured by that score, so keep the visual check in your process.
